Goal
- Improve endurance and strength by up to 3-4 times of the current capacity.
Foundational things that can powerfully impact skill learning and physical performance
- Getting a good night’s sleep
- Being properly hydrated
- Being well nourished
Temperature: key to physical performance and recovery
- It’s even more imp than sleep as temp will dictate how well and when you sleep and depth of total recovery.
- 2 aspects to temp: heat and cold. Our focus here: cold as a way to buffer heat.
- There are different compartments in our body that heat and cool us differently which can be leveraged to 2x-4x our performance. It can really shift the needle.
- It’s not about performing well once. It is also about being able to recover from that performance so that we can do better even if we’re not incorporating these tools (on days we cannot access these tools)
Where the learnings from this episode are applicable: endurance, strength, speed, flexibility exercises.
How does temperature impact the body and its ability to perform, including learning new skills?
- Homeostasis: body wants to remain in a particular range of temperature. Doesn’t want to be too hot or too cold.
- There are many mechanisms installed into us through our evolutionary design to keep our body temp in a particular narrow range.
How body regulates temperature
